US changes visa rules
The United States has announced some important changes to its visa rules, which apply to passport-holders from countries in the Visa Waiver Program.

Travelers from 35 countries now have to request authorisation online to enter the United States, according to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) website.

The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) has been applicable since August 2008, but is now compulsory for applicable European countries as well as Japan, South Korea, Brunei, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

Luckily you still won't have to apply for a US visa (unlike South African passport holders), but if you don't fill out your info online before you step on-board you could find yourself in a dark room with some unfriendly immigration officer.

You can find out more and registe online at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.
